Roman PowerPoint/Accordian Book Assignment

You will be designing an accordian book in PowerPoint and then printing it. You'll then cut it out, tape it together and add color.

1. Find 8 interesting facts from your reading of the PBS Roman Empire Site.

Be sure you don't take every fact from the first or second paragraph. Look deep into the pages and find facts that will amaze and amuse your friends.

2. Open MS PowerPoint, an Open Office Presentation, or go to Google Docs and open up a new presentaion.

3. Open a new blank PowerPoint document if it hasn't already done so for you.

4. Choose the title slide layout, pick a template. Pick a white background. Enter a title for your book and enter your name. You will be printing these out in black and white so don't use a dark or busy background.

5. Create 8 additional slides for each interesting fact. You'll have a total of 9 pages.

6. Add clip art or free photographs from the internet on each slide (9 pictures or clip art)

7. Change fonts, sizes, styles as desired keeping in mind that you will be printing these out 4 slides per page. In other words--don't put a lot of words on each slide and be sure the font size is big. Also, you will be printing this out in black and white, therefore, do not use lots of color.

8. Printing:

  • Ask teacher for permission to print
  • Pull down the file menu to print.
  • Choose "Print What:" Handouts (in Open Office it is similar, in Google Docs you go to File>Print and drop down the layout arrow to 4 slides)
  • Slides per page: 4
  • Print

9. Making the book:

  • See the example
  • Cut around the slides carefully, leaving a border of about a quarter inch.
  • Tape the slides together, side by side so they can fold into an accordian book.
  • Color the book with markers, colors or colored pencils.

10. Finish and turn in!
